Hello,
Is there anyone working in Transition in Scotland for whom the age at which young people with Learning Disabilities are leaving school is causing difficulties?

I work in Glasgow and many young people now leave school at 17 or 18 (as opposed to nearer to their 19th birthday , which was the case until the last year or so). This creates problems in identifying a worker from Adult Social Work to become involved at an early enough stage, to work jointly with the worker from the children's team, in planning services and support post school.The ASL Code of practice doesn't seem to be being adhered to in terms of workers planning 12 months ahead and information being passed to relevant services 6 months prior to the leaving date.. In essence young people have a transtion when they leave school and then again as they approach their 19th birthday and responsibility for funding of services passes to Adult resources...

Is this just a West of Scotland thing??!

If anyone can let me know the usual leaving dates in other parts of the country, I would be grateful.
