Accessibility
The national transition support team is committed to
producing an accessible website. We are still developing this
website, but we are aiming to include the following:
- Web Content Accessibility Guidelines
- Text-only site
- Alternative text
- Print page
- Fast page download
- Web-friendly text
- Easy to read content
- Search tips
To get it right for all our users, we are spending time on
user testing and site development as budget allows.
Web Content Accessibility Guidelines
We
seek to meet the Priority A and AA guidelines of the W3C Web
Content Accessibility Guidelines. We test our website using
automated tools and manual testing.
Text-only site
We will be developing a
text-only site, so that every page can
be viewed as a single column of content. This
is easier to read than the three-column format on the graphics
version of the site.
Alternative text
Images on our website have alternative text attributes, or alt
text. This is a description of the image that is
used by text browsers and assistive technologies such as
screen readers. According to best practice, decorative images do
not need to be described in this way.
Print page
You can print out every page of
this website to fit standard A4 page size - no more wasted paper
because sentences are cut in half.
Fast page download
We use stylesheets
instead of tables, and text instead of graphic-text where possible
so that the page displays faster.
Web-friendly text
The font we use is easy to read on screen but narrow enough so that
you don't have to scroll down too much. We avoid using text in
italics or capital letters. You can increase or decrease the size
of the text on the website using your web browser - please read the
RNIB web browser guidelines [link to external
website].
Easy to read content
We try to keep things
short and easy to understand. This includes using bullet-points and
numbered lists where possible. If there is something on this
website that you don't understand, please tell us.
User testing
We will be involving disabled people with a range of impairments in
testing this site to improve accessibility, in addition to formal
testing already carried out.
Tell us what you think
We want to hear from you about your experience of using our website
as we add more features over time. Please email websupport@ncb.org.uk, including
'TSP website' in the subject line of your email.
